WHAT EVERY PARENT NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT

WHEN TO SEEK HELP FOR YOUR CHILD

If you are wondering whether or not your son or daughter needs help, ask yourself the following questions.  If your answer is “yes” to any of them, it may indicate that your child is experiencing emotional and/or behavioral problems that require professional help.  This is especially true if your child’s problems have persisted over an extended period of time.   Please CONTACT ME if you have any concerns about your son or daughter and want to get help.

Important Questions to Ask About Children (pre-teens):

· Has your child shown a recent decline in school performance?

· Does your child receive poor grades in school despite trying very hard?

· Does your child worry excessively or experience extreme anxiety?

· Does your child have frequent nightmares?

· Does your child refuse to go to school?

· Does your child show a lack of interest in age-appropriate activities?

· Is your child hyperactive (e.g., fidgets a lot,  constant excessive movement, non-stop talking, etc.)?

· Does your child display any regression in his or her behavior on a developmental task that was met previously such as thumb sucking or toilet training?

· Does your child disobey you frequently?

· Is your child physically aggressive with or without being provoked?

· Doe your child have frequent, unexplainable temper tantrums?

· Does your child often seem sad or moody?

· Does your child often complain of physical ailments which do not seem to have a medical cause?

· Does your child display changes in his/her eating habits or sleep patterns?

· Does your child display sexually precocious behavior?

· Does your child have significant problems making friends and getting along with peers?

· Is your child physically aggressive toward animals or other children?

If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, you should consider seeking some professional advice about your child.
